August Five Four Club Review #2

In my last review I noted it was the August Five Four Club, but Five Four Club runs a month behind. This package is the actual August Five Four Club.

The Subscription: Five Four Club
The Description: Five Four Club provides a subscription box for men with stylish, on-trend clothes. Upgrade and progress your wardrobe. Create a style profile in about 60 seconds and get monthly packages of clothing and accessories up to 75% off retail. Boxes are allotted by a points system. Each monthly membership fee gets you 10 points.
The Price: $60 per month.
The Coupon: Get $15 off your first box. Just use this link or enter code AFMOMMY15 .

August 2013 Five Four Club:

Solana Absolutely love the button down shirts sent in my order but unfortunately they were a little tight on the shoulders as I had ordered a medium. I am exchanging with convenient exchange policy for large.

Sweetzer (blue) ($55)

I cannot fathom why they sent this to me again, as they had me return it from the last package. I sent it back.

Replacement Items

These are replacements from my last Five Four Club order.

Sailor Tee ($11.25) The five for fashion T-shirts are still the best fitting T-shirts I have ever owned; when you put one on It. makes you feel like the time in the gym was worth it.

Dres Hauser ($51) The waist on these is too large and they’re exchanging them for me. I did really like them.

I ended up returning everything for this order, and they will replace the shirts and send me another (different) t-shirt, I’m guessing. And exchange the pants that were a replacement for my first order. Five Four Club has been extremely accommodating.

August Bespoke Post Review: Hemingway/Frontier

My latest “box of awesome” from Bespoke Post contained a leather bound notebook ( love the smell of the leather binding and the smooth finish on the pages), a calligraphy pen complete with replacement cartridges, a sturdy bottle opener and perhaps coolest of all – a French-made lock blade. It is a beautiful knife made of high-quality steel, has a handsome wooden handle and manual locking mechanism to prevent the knife from shutting. If you are used to carrying around a jackknife the first thing you’ll notice upon putting this your pocket is how incredibly light it is because of the wooden handle. Any of these items would make a unique and beautiful gift… that is if you can stand to part with them.

The Subscription: Bespoke Post
The Description: Bespoke Post delivers fresh and interesting lifestyle brands and products to men. Each month, you’ll get to choose from one of the limited-edition boxes filled with an array of products built around a central, unique theme. The Price: $45 per month.
The Coupon: Save 10% on Bespoke Post. Use code GIFT2013.

August 2013 Bespoke Post: Hemingway

Another Box of Awesome. I’m looking forward to the September Coffee Box.

Godwin Cold-Pressed Steel Bottle Opener, Machine Era Co. “Write drunk; edit sober.”

Sport Fountain Pen with Pocket Clip & Cartridge Refills, Kaweco

No. 8 Pocket Knife, 3.25″ Stainless Steel Blade with an Oak Handle, Opinel This is an amazing knife.

Soft Cover Notebook, 5″ x 8.25”, Black, Poppin My Wife stole this.

Hot Spot Monthly T-Shirt Subscription Review

Hot Spot Monthly sent me this subscription box for my review.

This subscription suggests that you’re a well-traveled and sophisticated drinker even if you’ve never downed a pint of anything not featured during halftime commercial. Because the shirts are sourced from actual drinking establishments the shirts themselves tend to be your standard-issue comfy T-shirt, so don’t expect European tailoring or styling but they are a fun way to randomize your T-shirt wardrobe and spark up some barstool conversation. The shirts are 100% cotton and very soft.

The Subscription: Hot Spot Monthly

The Description: Get one shirt every month from the coolest bars with the best logos from all across the country. Hot Spot hand picks T-Shirts from pubs, lounges, and microbrewers and send them directly to your door. Hangover purely optional.

The Price: $20 per month.

August & September 2013 Hot Spot Monthly:

Craft & Growler Yelp says this is one of the best craft bars in Dallas. It’s absolutely on my list the next time I find myself there.

This detail is on the back of the shirt.

Downward Dog This bar is in Oregon and looks like a great microbrew and burger pub.

MeUndies Review – Men’s August Boxer Briefs & T-Shirt

MeUndies sent me this subscription box for my review.

MeUndies produces underwear, tee shirts and other comfort clothes with fit, feel and fashion beyond anything of the sort you’d find pitched by retired basketball players. I’m particularly fond of the longer cut boxer briefs, as they are exceptionally comfortable. Here are some notes.

The Subscription: MeUndies
The Description: MeUndies is incredibly soft underwear. It’s available by the pair, a pack, or by subscription. Get briefs, trunks, or boxer briefs (or try all three). Top quality shirts and socks also available.
The Price: $16 per pair per month.

August 2013 MeUndies: TeePee Print

MeUndies T-Shirt ($20) These are by far the best tailored undergarments I’ve ever had. The T-shirts fit perfectly – the seam Above the shoulders is neither too close to the neck nor too far down the shoulder. The shirt hangs well along ribs and stomach being slightly tailored avoiding the baggy appearance all too common with most T-shirts. The neck is wider than your department store T-shirt but not overly so. Made of very comfortable material and extremely wearable. 100% cotton.

MeUndies Boxer Briefs ($16) The TeePee boxers are also very well fitted they extend two thirds down the thigh and don’t ride up. They have a slight pouch in the crotch for extra comfort where you would like a little extra room. The material is stretchy and slightly silky with a very comfortable waistband. This particular pattern is a nice change from your standard solid or checkered boxer pattern. They have somehow managed to create a boxer that’s both form-fitting but not the least bit tight or inhibiting: a very fine fit. 92% Micro-Modal

The TeePee print by Cavern is limited edition, though it’s still currently available.

Birchbox Man Review – August 2013

For August, Birchbox Man‘s theme was “Serve It Up.” The information card discussed dinner parties and cocktails, and the August Birchbox Man included a sturdy apron along with the usual grooming products.

August 2013 Birchbox Man: Serve It Up

Billy Jealousy Liquid Sand Exfoliating Facial Cleanser ($3) Surprisingly non-gritty. Light scent of juniper, reminiscent of a decent gin. Applies effortlessly and leaves skin soft and renewed.

Balla powder ($1.50) Should be called ball powder, as that is the intended application referenced on the canister. Very fine texture and silky feel; scent is more akin to a classic deodorant than to the feminine fragrance of baby powder.

PLANT face oil ($3) With a slight menthol character and hints of citrus, this rich oil has the appearance of a furniture rejuvenating oil. When rubbed in thoroughly It is nongreasy yet maintains skins moisture longer than traditional Moisturizing creams.

English Laundry Arrogant Cologne ($1.50) Refreshingly lacking in citrus and flowery notes. The sandalwood and Cedar provide a fresh and dry woodiness creating an assertiveness but unobtrusive character . Not overtly musky.

Roosevelt supply apron ($28) Tough and well fitted perfect complement for barbecue, shaving, and any other messy projects. oversized pocket can easily accommodate a beer can, smokes, or other other tools of the trade.

August 2013 Loot Crate: Cake

Jelly Belly Jelly Beans Only one pouch, others received more.

August Five Four Club Review

Five Four Club is a lifestyle brand that produces modern, contemporary apparel with LA style. I recently signed up to test out the service. I filled out a really quick style profile and waited for my shipment.

August 2013 Five Four Club: Utility at its Finest

Five Four Dark Lodge Graphic Tee ($2 points) This was a great shirt with good style. It’s very comfortable, but very thin.

Five Four Life Style Graphic Tee ($2 points) This shirt was a little loud for me, but I’ll find a use for it. From what I’ve seen of Five Four Club, it’s not typical.

Jetsetter Duffle Bag ($6 points) This is a very large duffel with a long extra strap.

I liked that Five Four Club was a different style and I’m going for another box to see what I get. While I wasn’t crazy about the Life & Style shirt I received, I would have really liked to have received some of the other items on the information card. I talked to a stylist about tweaking my profile more and I expect next month’s box to be an improvement. I was very happy with the customer service.

Bombfell Review – August Shipment

Bombfell is a men’s personal styling clothing subscription. You fill out a medium-length profile and allow your personal stylist to select clothing for you based on your size and personal preferences. You are presented with your picks before they are mailed. Typically you only get one item, though you can request more, as I did here.
After receipt, you have ten days to try out your Bombfell selections Here’s what I got in my first Bombfell shipment.

The Subscription: Bombfell
The Description: Bombfell is a monthly clothing subscription designed entirely for men. Get clothes picked just for you by a stylist, so you can spend your time doing awesome guy stuff.
The Price: Depending on your budget, spend $69-199 per month.
The Coupon: Save $10 on your first order, just by using my link to sign up.

August 2013 Bombfell: Mostly Penguin

Penguin Prince of Wales Check Shirt ($69) This dress shirt fit well, but I’m not sure it’s exactly my style. Perhaps a little too kingpin for my personal tastes.

life/after/denim Slim Fit Chino ($69) I requested that these pants not be shipped to me. Not a problem.

Big Star Union Straight Jeans ($69) I liked these jeans, but they fit a bit large. I’ll send them back and have my stylist select a new pair.

Original Penguin The Bing One-Pocket Tee ($19) This was a great shirt. I thought the stitching added some extra class to a basic tee. I really enjoyed the Penguin picks.

Original Penguin Oxford Trim Daddy-O Classic Fit Polo ($55) I typically don’t care for pique polo shirts but this one was very soft with a very small pique knit.

The Bombfell package also included a couple of surprises – a South Park ball, and a measuring tape. I’ll use both.

I am sure that over time the Bombfell stylists will learn my preferences, but I’m extremely pleased with my selection. I don’t have to keep anything I don’t want to keep and the Bombfell stylists will continue to send me new clothes. I kept the Penguin Tee & Penguin polo.
