Bespoke Post Review: Sweat

This month’s Bespoke Post / “box of awesome” brought me some gym essentials.  Sometimes my wife consults with me on whether I want the box for the month (I decided I didn’t want either of the previous month’s selections) and sometimes she already knows I’ll love it. She let me select between “Sweat” (this box) and “Heritage.” I chose Sweat because of the Blue Claw Duffel. I have the Blue Claw Dopp Bag from a previous Bespoke Post and I love it – it’s extremely high quality.

The Subscription: Bespoke Post
The Description: Bespoke Post delivers fresh and interesting lifestyle brands and products to men. Each month, you’ll get to choose from one of the limited-edition boxes filled with an array of products built around a central, unique theme.
The Price: $45 per month.

January 2014 Bespoke Post: Sweat

Bespoke Post is $45 per month and it’s definitely one of my favorite subscription boxes for men (although my wife steals some of them). On the first of the month you get an email with your selection and you can keep it, swap it, or skip for the month. To get the email just sign up for Bespoke Post and you can decide later. We had our account for months before we took the plunge. Alternatively, if you want this exact box, it’s still available.

Duffel from Blue Claw Co.

Duffel from Blue Claw Co.

A sturdy and understated Duffel from Blue Claw Co.  Constructed of durable canvas, this bag can hold your full gym ensemble, including your shoes and protein bars.   The strap is detachable, and I particularly like the MacKenzie bros inspired liner, eh.  Very cool. This duffel was designed exclusively for Bespoke Post and would probably retail from $100-$145.

Jacked Pack Sample

Jacked Pack Sample ($7) The duffel even came with a sampling of the latest and greatest protein and performance supplements sports science has to offer.  Jacked Pack sorts through the ocean of offerings and sends you the ones worth trying.

Note from the wife: This box also came with a 1 year bonus subscription to Men’s Health. You can keep the magazine subscription or apply for the rebate.

Root Bizzle Tie Subscription Review

Root Bizzle sent me this tie for my review.

Root Bizzle sends you a new tie every month to keep your collection from getting stale.  There’s nothing worse then the ole tie rut, where you grab the same one of your four ties every time you need to throw one on.   No one likes to shop for ties or put faith in the obligatory Father’s Day offering.  Choose to receive selections from business, skinny or whimsical collections and never worry about ties again. Root Bizzle offers three styles, two lengths, and they are all 100% silk.

Root Bizzle Tie

Root Bizzle Tie

I thought this was a great unique look. The colors were coordinated, it had an interesting but understated pattern, and I will probably wear this one once per week (I wear ties frequently). It was well-constructed and the silk was heavy weight. You can sign up for your first month of Root Bizzle with coupon Grabatologist to get half off your first month.
The Subscription: Root Bizzle
The Description: Build your own stylish, 100% silk tie collection. Receive a handpicked tie monthly from the style of your choice: Skinny, Whimsical, or Business. You’ll select the length, too. Ties are designed in Italy and are either woven or digitally printed.
The Price: $25 per month.

Phone Case of the Month Review

Posted by Thomas on January 26, 2014

This is really my wife’s subscription but she let me have a few cases (she just switched the type of phone on her profile). Phone Case of the Month is a monthly mobile phone case subscription available for iPhone and Samsung Galaxy.

I’ve never been one for phone cases, but I was sure glad she had sent me some cases when my phone fell onto the concrete floor.  The cases are designed for fashion, but it did provide enough protection that my screen didn’t crack.  The cover broke, but no matter, a new one just showed up!   This month was a cool California design for the winter-weary; they even threw in some bonus “flair”!  You can download matching wallpaper through your subscription portal. Of course it comes with the microfiber pouch, and as I am obsessed with glasses cleaning cloths, I appreciated the little bag very much.

The Subscription: Phone Case of the Month
The Description: A limited edition phone case every month for only $10. Only 200 printed and all designs are exclusive to this subscription. Each package includes a one of a kind phone case.  Samsung Galaxy S3 & S4 in addition to iPhone cases including 5c.
The Price: $10 per month
The Coupon: Get your first box for just $5 – a $5 savings! No code necessary.

January Ashton Kutcher Fancy Box Review

January 2014 Ashton Kutcher Fancy Box

January 2014 Ashton Kutcher Fancy Box

It’s nice to have Ashton Kutcher on retainer as your personal stylist.  The latest installment in the Ashton Kutcher Fancy Box (which isn’t always, and in fact rarely is clothing) offers some fun and relaxed updates to your office wardrobe. Last month my wife bought me the December Ashton Kutcher Fancy Box for Christmas. That was an awesome box and it was the Fancy.com Black Friday special instead of the actual box – which was a single watch. I preferred the box I received. There were only 3 items in this month’s Fancy Box because two of them were high-value.

The Subscription: Ashton Kutcher A+ Fancy Box
The Description: Get A+ swag, gear, and goods every month curated by Ashton Kutcher.
The Price: $39.95 plus $7.95 shipping per month.
The Coupon: Save 10% on Ashton’s A+ Fancy Box. Use code FOLLOWUP10.

FACA Bullet Cufflinks

FACA Bullet Cufflinks

FACA Bullet Cufflinks ($40)  FACA cuff links are also featured in this box.  Mine were brass and silver bullets.  They are sure to draw some attention… from colleagues and the TSA alike.

FACA Italian Wool Tie

FACA Italian Wool Tie

FACA Italian Wool Tie ($50) Textured ties are trending, and the FACA Italian wool tie is  a great starter piece.  The palate goes well with a classic charcoal or grey suit and also presents a nice contrast when paired with a richly colored shirt.  Very versatile and durable.

Richer Poorer Veteran Socks

Richer Poorer Veteran Socks

Richer Poorer Veteran Socks ($12) Richer Poorer’s “Veteran” socks were the nicest surprise of all.  They bring some fun to any outfit, whether formal or casual.  What surprised me was the fit — most men’s socks are sized so big that the heel portion ends up close to my calf (I like to yank my socks all the way up).  these were sized appropriately, and the heel fell in just the right spot even when cranked up.

Great Fit

Great Fit

The total value for January’s Ashton Kutcher Fancy Box is $102. One of my goals for the year is to start wearing the fun socks I receive in boxes more frequently. I thought this was a great way to start.

December Five Four Club Review

My Five Four Club subscription for December featured a sweet cardigan and Eric Decker as Five Four’s newest ambassador.

Five Four Clothing - Eric Decker

Five Four Clothing – Eric Decker

Five Four clothing will now only be available to club members. My wife & I found that interesting, as there’s a store in our mall (in the DC area) that is filled with Five Four clothing.

December 2013 Five Four Club

This month I received two items – a cardigan and a pair of sweatpants – and I was very pleased with both. There may have been socks included with other members’ packages, as a stocking stuffer, but they were not in my package. December’s Five Four Club included items that were comfortable, casual, and stylish and great for the winter cold.

Five Four Club Cardigan

Five Four Club Cardigan

Five Four Cato Cardigan ($98) This cardigan is a great royal blue and I’ve worn it each day since opening my package. It’s pretty sophisticated for a cardigan and keeps me warm. I like that you can pop the collar for a neckwarmer.

Five Four Club Sweatpants

Five Four Club Sweatpants

Five Four Larch Sweatpants ($60) These pants are fitted and feature zipper leg openings and zipper pockets. I didn’t think I would be crazy about the zipper pockets but they keep stuff from falling out when you lounge. They are comfortable but not a baggy mess like most sweatpants. The insides are terry so they should hold up well.

My Five Four Club package had a total value of almost $165, and cost just $60. And I didn’t have to do anything. I was very happy with December and am looking forward to my January package.

January 2014 Birchbox Man Review

Looking for January 2015? Go here. No, I have no idea why Google is sending you here.

January’s Birchbox Man is about getting lean & mean – or about making promises to do so. I have similarly promised myself to try out P90X. Birchbox Man would instead like us to make small and lasting tweaks to our routine. They also have a contest to win 10,000 Birchbox Points, though it’s not active yet.

American Crew Alternator

American Crew Alternator

American Crew Alternator ($1.50) I’m not sure about the endless pliability that this product promises but I’m happy to try out a new hair product that isn’t stiff. Smells interesting and makes it feel silky.

Ernest Supplies Gel Face Wash

Ernest Supplies Gel Face Wash

ERNEST SUPPLIES Soap-free Gel Face Wash ($1.85) Birchbox seems to send me Ernest Supplies in each box, and this month was no exception. This soap-free face wash will make sure your face doesn’t dry out. Smells kind of lemony.

Mayron's Goods Chapstuff

Mayron’s Goods Chapstuff

Mayron’s Goods Chapstuff ($14) This is a full size product, although it’s quite small. This is perfect for winter – it’s packed with shea butter, coca butter, coconut oil, as well as various other oils and extracts. I like that it’s easy to apply anywhere that needs extra protection. This is very nice and I will use the whole thing.

Reviver

Reviver

Reviver Dry Deodorant Swipes for Clothes ($3) I guess this is for swiping the pits on your clothes when you need freshening up.

Tommy John Trunks

Tommy John Trunks

Tommy John 360° Sport Trunk ($31) Um, wow. These sure are silky drawers. These are from the Tommy John “Second Skin” line – “the most body-conscious underwear available.” Perhaps they would have been better in the February box. It features a horizontal “quick draw” fly and has a key pocket for when you’re wearing gym shorts. These are decidedly workout undies and are quite comfy. I like their attention to not having excess fabric, and I may try out their no-ride up undershirts the next time I purchase some. Tommy John’s Second Skin is made of Non-Pilling Micro Modal. I am impressed.

My January Birchbox Man had over $51 in products. I thought the Chapstuff and underwear were totally awesome. You can see all Birchbox Man Reviews. Soxiety Socks and Apolis Tie

Soxiety Socks and Apolis Tie

Soxiety Striped Socks ($12) Great way to make a statement and add some color in a boring office wardrobe.

Apolis Flannel Wool Tie ($68)  It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a wool tie. Perfect for Vermont. It will go well with a peacoat or a non-traditional blazer, or a sweater or vest. Adds texture rather than pattern.

Monocle Speaker

Monocle Speaker

Native Union Monocle Speaker ($50) I haven’t tried this out yet but I am looking forward to testing it out for FaceTime.

Krave Jerky + Chip-Zel-Pop

Krave Jerky + Chip-Zel-Pop

Funky Chunky ChipZelPop ($3.50) This is quite the indulgent snack. I would have been thrilled with just this item.

Krave Jerky ($7)  Very tender – it’s like dried roast beef and isn’t tough. The flavor – Sweet Chipotle – is not very spicy and nicely sweet.

Don’t forget to take a look at other Men’s Lifestyle Subscription Boxes.  The regular Popsugar subscription would make an excellent gift for Valentine’s Day. My wife eagerly awaits her box every month though she easily reviews around 100 subscription boxes every month. Read all her Popsugar Must Have Box Reviews here.

December BroBox Review – Holiday Buzz Edition

BroBox sent me this subscription box for my review.

December’s BroBox is the “Holiday Buzz” edition and is packed with caffeine-filled delights to get you through the holidays. After Christmas week – filled with Santa duties and multiple power outages – I will gladly partake of a few of these buzz-laden treats. BroBox is a very inexpensive subscription box and I think it’s well worth the cost. When you get your box, you’ll get a coupon for your next box for just $11.

SpazzStick and Shower Shock

Shower Shock Does caffeinated soap do anything?  Apparently yes. Lather up before you even have a cup. This is the crowning jewel of the box. I’ve never seen topically applied caffeine. Can you rub it on your balls to take out the wrinkles?

SpazzStick Caffeinated Lip Balm – Vanilla Toffee  Nice and sweet. Very tasty. Perhaps too tasty for a caffeinated balm.
