Wet Shave Club is a new subscription box devoted to the art of wet shaving (and 30 days of handsomeness). First-time subscribers will receive a modified box that includes a safety razor with handle & case, as well as a bristle brush, in case you aren’t already a wet shaving aficionado.

I’d already received a previous box (you can see the razor/brush there), this is a box for returning subscribers. I really enjoyed my initial shipment and have been regularly wet shaving so I happily agreed to review.

Lots of stuff to try in the January 2015 box.  This month’s shipment included some new Trig blades and several botanical accoutrements. I’m saving the Edwin Jagger shave cream and after shave lotion for my dopp kit.  The sandalwood lotion smells nice.  

The Ursa Major wash and balm are great: the former is slightly minty, and the latter lanolin and licorice scented (at least to my untrained nose).  

Also included was Crow and Sparrow’s Wares Aftershave Tonic ($6).  This has a classic barber shop scent and feel; it is mildly scented. The Sudsy Soapery Shave Oil in “Twice Mint” ($8.95) was a great addition to my routine. I appreciate the multiple samples – it’s always nice to have a new scent to try or a different blend.

Along with the samples and extra blades is the centerpiece of the monthly box: the wet shaving soap. This month included Ellington’s Gentleman’s Shaving Soap. It’s the same as sold on their site ($10) but without the shaving can. This soap lathers well, provides a great shave, and has a classic masculine woody scent.

The cost of the samples definitely bring the value of the box up to the monthly cost. You can save on your subscription by opting for a longer plan – up to $7 off every box. I have definitely enjoyed using all of my Wet Shave Club products. I think it’s a great experience and an excellent alternative to conventional shaving subscriptions. I recommend trying it at least once.
