Bespoke Post Review: Notched Box

Beltology Belt – Awesome belt perfect for Thanksgiving — you can set at virtually any length since you fasten the belt in-between any of the woven cords, not just at pre-set holes. Fantastically stretchy too, so don’t err on the long side when ordering.

Jack & Mulligan Flask:  a classier alternative to plastic when sneaking booze into your favorite venue.  The cloth cover is especially cool and adds some insulation and grip, allowing you to tuck it under your belt.

Hefenweizen Soap:  At first, I thought:  “who wants to smell like stale beer?”, but this soap is light and citrusy with a very bright and pleasant sent.  Avocado and grapefruit , not stale beer, are the feature players in this delightful bar.

Note from Wifey – I also picked up the Shelter box for my husband (no longer available), and the Detailed box. I know he loved the Shelter box and the fancy umbrella. Zero word on Detailed. I think he was either pissed about it or tucked it away because the snow hadn’t melted in Vermont. Probably both. Some guys are really into detailing their cars – he isn’t one of them. At all. But I have heard really awesome things about that box and the high quality of the paste wax.  Neither of us have a clue why the booklet for this box was so ugly. Speaking of the shop – I totally busted out the Mr. Kensington’s tonight because we ran out of Heinz. Our refined children approved.

Bespoke Post Review: Carry Box

The Bespoke Post Carry Box contains some fun summer accessories.  The Line of Trade slim wallet and Malibu Keyrings carabiner are a fun way to tote your essentials.  The JLK Sails bracelet and Carolina Manufacturing bandana will add some flair to any summer outfit.  Thrown in for good measure are classic Choward’s mints.

Another note from wife – I guarantee you that my husband’s use of flair is in the Office Space sense. He doesn’t wear bracelets. This month’s Bespoke Post / “box of awesome” brought me some gym essentials.  Sometimes my wife consults with me on whether I want the box for the month (I decided I didn’t want either of the previous month’s selections) and sometimes she already knows I’ll love it. She let me select between “Sweat” (this box) and “Heritage.” I chose Sweat because of the Blue Claw Duffel. I have the Blue Claw Dopp Bag from a previous Bespoke Post and I love it – it’s extremely high quality.

January 2014 Bespoke Post: Sweat

Bespoke Post is $45 per month and it’s definitely one of my favorite subscription boxes for men (although my wife steals some of them). On the first of the month you get an email with your selection and you can keep it, swap it, or skip for the month. To get the email just sign up for Bespoke Post and you can decide later. We had our account for months before we took the plunge. Alternatively, if you want this exact box, it’s still available.

Duffel from Blue Claw Co.

A sturdy and understated Duffel from Blue Claw Co.  Constructed of durable canvas, this bag can hold your full gym ensemble, including your shoes and protein bars.   The strap is detachable, and I particularly like the MacKenzie bros inspired liner, eh.  Very cool. This duffel was designed exclusively for Bespoke Post and would probably retail from $100-$145.

Jacked Pack Sample

Jacked Pack Sample ($7) The duffel even came with a sampling of the latest and greatest protein and performance supplements sports science has to offer.  Jacked Pack sorts through the ocean of offerings and sends you the ones worth trying.

November 2013 Bespoke Post: The Butcher

Every Bespoke Post post comes with a detailed card with descriptions of each item. The Butcher Box included suggestions and pairings for the food.

Treeline Woodworks Butcher Block ($115) Made in LA, this handsome block is sturdy, but not too huge to be practical. It;s light enough to store and break out for a carving station, present as a beautiful cheese board, or make quick work of your pre meal prep. The value on this box is astonishing.

Liber & Co Tonic Syrup ($13) Über premium upgrade to the gin and tonic – my favorite. Add some naturally sweetened quinine allow and transform seltzer and gin into something delightful, or experiment with your own creations.

Noble Handcrafted Bourbon-Aged & Tahitian Vanilla Maple Syrup ($9) Two unique gourmet takes on a breakfast table staple. Add some depth with the bourbon flavor, or try the vanilla chamomile for a flowery treat.

Slavo Salt Salt is the new sauce. Bring out the flavor of any savory dish with a pinch of pure flavor enhancer. I’ll need to hide this from my wife – she’ll steal it. (Note from wife: Thanks sweetheart, better eat it before I get it!)

Lord Nut Levington Rebel Mary Spicy Bloody Mary Peanuts ($5.49) Bloody Mary and cocktail peanuts brought together in a zesty snack. The lime and salt far outpaces the spice. Unique at first taste — addictive thereafter. (Another note from wife – this means he ate the entire can while watching football.)

Marie Sharp’s Habanero Pepper Sauce ($3) Habanero is the first ingredient, but this sauce is nicely balanced. You can splash it on for a delightful kick without burning out your taste buds.

I loved the Butcher Box from Bespoke Post. Long after the comestibles are gone we’ll still have the great butcher block cutting board. You can still get this exact box while supplies are available. Gilded Age scarf ($119) Thin and extra long, this handsome scarf boasts of its production using old fashioned machines and techniques. Soft and long enough that you can tie in a sturdy knot and it will still hang. Could double nicely as a table runner.

Declan microfiber cloth ($13) My personal obsession is glasses cloths, and this is a fine one. It features different print on each side and is extra tacky to grab every smudge.

Men In Cities slim wallet: ($40) I’ve previously reviewed a Men In Cities passport holder and given it high marks for style and functionality. The MIC slim wallet similarly does not disappoint. It has two credit card sleeves that will each hold several cards and fits unobtrusively in your pocket (great for those of us who like to carry their wallet in their front pocket). Unlike some slim wallets, it actually has a third interior pocket that’ll fit your cash.

Mack Weldon socks ($12.50) Taller and thicker than a standard dress sock, these will keep your feet warm and lend some panache to your shins.

Carmex healing lip balm and healing cream The classic lip balm, combining soothing camphor, menthol and phenol in lanolin, bees wax and other good stuff. Paired up with their new skin cream. The cream comes surprisingly close to replicating the smooth beeswax texture of the lip balm when applied.

Love my French press. As I am a fan of coffee subscription clubs I needed some way to brew my coffee that would respect the quality beans. (My K-cup style Brewer doesn’t seem to get enough flavor out of them). The French press is the perfect solution and allows the grounds to sleep long enough to extract all the wonderful flavor. I was totally psyched as the box even came with some whole beans, some sweet gourmet tea (Earl Grey is my absolute favorite!), a frother to mix up some gourmet drinks for the kids and ladies in your life, and even a protein bar how freaking awesome is that!?!

My wife didn’t think I would be interested in the September Bespoke Post. She was totally wrong.

Tiesta Tea Energizer in Earl Grey de la Creme ($5.99) This tea is awesome. How did they know my favorite? Do it up like Jean Luc: “Earl grey, hot.”

Perfectly Simple Bar in Peanut Crunch ($1.50) You can never have too much protein.

It’s refreshing to see something made out of real glass and metal; There is a reason the French Have been doing it this way.

I received well over the value of this $45 box and will use and love every item.

My latest “box of awesome” from Bespoke Post contained a leather bound notebook ( love the smell of the leather binding and the smooth finish on the pages), a calligraphy pen complete with replacement cartridges, a sturdy bottle opener and perhaps coolest of all – a French-made lock blade. It is a beautiful knife made of high-quality steel, has a handsome wooden handle and manual locking mechanism to prevent the knife from shutting. If you are used to carrying around a jackknife the first thing you’ll notice upon putting this your pocket is how incredibly light it is because of the wooden handle. Any of these items would make a unique and beautiful gift… that is if you can stand to part with them.
